Virtual Paper Napkin

Igniting the 3D revolution in Singapore schools

In early 2005, we launch the Virtual Paper Napkin (VPN) programme. Supported by the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), this pioneering initiative is an outreach and training programme to ignite students' interest in 3D applications. It includes training VPN_MOU.jpgprimary and secondary students, as well as teachers using an easy to use and learn 3D modeling and animation software called CINEMA 4D. VPN is set to revolutionize future teaching and learning in classroom by helping students to understand complex concepts easily using 3D virtual space and applications.

Our vision is to build a complete ecosystem for igniting, nurturing, developing and showcasing strong 3D visualization capabilities in students - our future engineers, scientists and creative professionals. This initiative involves initially three pilot schools and is supported by our strategic partners - the Singapore Science Centre, AMD, NTU Centre for Advanced Media and Technology and MAXON Computer GmbH.

At the launch of the VPN programme, Assistant Chief Executive, IDA, Mr Khoong Hock Yun mentioned during his speech, "IDA is supportive of the VPN programme, which promotes early interest in secondary school students on 3D visualisation and computer animation. I hope this programme will equip secondary schools with the basic knowledge and skills on 3D modeling, visualisation and animation capabilities." c4d_with_fun_thumbnail.jpg

As part of this VPN initiative and in collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic, we also set up the 3D Media Studio in Temasek Polytechnic. The 3D Media Studio is the Authorized Training Centre for MAXON software with high-end 3D graphics workstations sponsored by AMD.

Our students benefit from state-of-the-art hardware and software and our courses are tailored to the needs of each participant. Every course is equipped with comprehensive, in-depth practical application and theoretical exercises are part of every course. Courses are offered for everyone from beginners to professionals looking to improve their existing skill level.

Managing Director of IM Innovations, Mr Vincent Ong said, "3D graphics and animation used to be exclusive to professionals and some institutions of higher learning. But with falling IT costs and a whole new e-generation of youths and children, 3D animation can now be every student's cup of tea." dino_scene.jpg

Besides the education sector, the 3D Media Studio is also uniquely positioned to conduct training for industry professionals as well as develop innovative 3D and digital media pilot projects for commercial organizations. We offer 3D seminars here or on location at educational institutions with adequate computer facilities.
