IM Innovations organises inaugural Unity 3D workshop at 3D Media Studio in Temasek Polytechnic

November 3, 2009

Ever dream of creating your own 3D game but not really sure how to do it? Not used to complicated codes and complex game engines?

After participating in the five days workshop organized by IM Innovations (IM), even technical professionals from Yuan Ze University and Temasek Polytechnic realized how easy it was to create their own 3D game. 3D Media Studio in Temasek Polytechnic was the venue for this customized training that was conducted by game programmer, Mr. Preben Thaysen from Unity Studios, Denmark.

The objective of this workshop was to empower users so that they could easily and quickly build exciting yet serious games. Apart from learning to use the functions and tools available, participants were treated to a whole new dimension of programming. Unlike traditional programming, Unity 3D allows users to view the final product while creating the scripts. Another special feature that our participants loved was the easy “drag and drop” function where users can select scripts and drop them on the objects with the click of their mouse.

Sharing sessions during the training were especially useful as attendees were able to draw on Mr. Preben Thaysen’s project experience to understand how Unity 3D features and functions can be applied to their own specific projects.

Participants were also exposed to other capabilities such as Unity 3D’s capacity to integrate well with 3D development tools like CINEMA 4D. Unity 3D also supports a wide range of publishing platforms, such as Windows OS and Mac. Games made by Unity 3D could also be played on favourite web browsers like Internet Explorer, Safari and Mozilla Firefox. Apple enthusiasts have another reason to love this software too as Unity 3D can be used to create games for iPhone.

The only thing left for the participants to do was let their imaginations run wild. If they can think it – Unity 3D will build it.
