In conjunction of BroadcastAsia2014, Asia’s leading digital and multimedia tradeshow for the pro-audio, film and TV industries, IM Innovations held two events on 20th June 2014 – the CINEMA 4D Broadcast Seminar and CINEMA 4D User Networking Session at the NUSS Suntec City Guild House.
The CINEMA 4D Broadcast Seminar was well-attended. Industry professionals from large and small companies including HBO Asia, Sony Pictures Entertainment Networks - Asia, MediaCorp, Riot Creative and Hans Productions together with staff from tertiary institutions such as Institute of Technical Education, Temasek Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic participated in the afternoon event. New and prospective clients like Pico Art International and Earnest Designer also took the opportunity to find out how CINEMA 4D motion graphics and visual effects modules can be applied in the architecture and interior design areas.
Eric, the demo artist from IM Innovations, kick-started the demo session by sharing the general work flow in CINEMA 4D. Using the Formula-1 car scene he created, he showed the 3D modelling, sculpting, texturing, dynamic simulation, lighting and photorealistic rendering functions in CINEMA 4D. The trees and lamp posts and some buildings used in the scene were also taken from the content browser, a comprehensive library of 3D assets which is included in CINEMA 4D. Florence then demonstrated how various Mograph functions in CINEMA 4D can be used to create graphics for a TV channel. She also showed the seamless integration between CINEMA 4D and After Effects, how 3D objects can easily be composited into a video footage. She then explained how to create and render a 3D template in CINEMA 4D to insert and exchange footages or images into the template in After Effects.
Our first two industry speakers, Jason Chua and Yen Chai Yee from HBO Asia, then went on stage. They started their sharing session with some impressive HBO Asia show reels and excited the audience with a promotional trailer for the popular American TV series, Games of Throne. The promotional trailer was created entirely using CINEMA 4D, from modelling to texturing to lighting. With a short timeline of 3 days, Jason and Chai Yee completed the entire 3D modelling of the trailer using CINEMA 4D. “CINEMA 4D helps to unlock creativity. It allows me to do my creative work quickly without having trouble with the technical stuff” commented Jason.
Next, Dominic Watkins from Pixelmotion.tv shared his show reel which included work done for companies such as BBC, Disney Channel, HBO Signature and Channel News Asia. He also offered his insights on how CINEMA 4D can be used to streamline workflow, meet complex production challenges within a tight deadlines. Dominic also shared with the audience what he liked most about CINEMA 4D, “What I like most would be the Mograph module which allows major time saving. Not only modelling, it allows you to build structure quickly and animate loads of object at once without trying to animate them individually. What I also like is the dynamic setting; it allows you to add physics such as collision and gravity to your scene.”
As part of our continuing effort to promote CINEMA 4D and develop a strong user community in Singapore and the region, IM Innovations also hosted the CINEMA 4D user networking event in the evening. Since the feedback from the last session was to have it informal and fun for the participants, we arranged a cocktail-style reception, with Desmond Seow from Sony Pictures Entertainment volunteering as the Master-of-Ceremony.
Jason Chua and Yen Chai Yee from HBO Asia, Rezaliando from BDA Creative and Owen Lim and Dionisius Kartalaksana from Abundant Productions were the guest presenters. In addition to what Jason and Chai Yee presented earlier at the Broadcast seminar, they also shared how CINEMA 4D helped them to create premium graphics within a short timeline. Rezaliando then showed his show reel and demonstrated how he use CINEMA 4D for some projects, such as using cloth simulation to create unique form and interesting shape. Finally, Owen Lim and Dionisius Kartalaksana demonstrated a few CINEMA 4D tips and techniques with the audience such as how to use deformers for character animation and how to easily set up camera animation with camera morph.
Participants in both events also learnt more from our key sponsors, Lenovo and Intel, about Lenovo’s latest range of high performance and reliable ThinkStation Workstations series.
For all CINEMA 4D users, including those who could not attend this event, join our LinkedIn group – CINEMA 4D User (ASEAN) to be updated with the latest CINEMA 4D news and events. It is also a suitable discussion platform for the CINEMA 4D user community in Singapore and ASEAN. More photos of the event can be found at our Facebook page.
