For the Cinema 4D Release 17 Launch held at Temasek Polytechnic on 28 September 2015, we are delighted that Matthias Zabiegly, the 3D Lead and VFX Supervisor of Aixsponza, was our special guest and presenter.
Matthias, who is a MAXON beta-tester and also a speaker at international events such as IBC and SIGGRAPH, presented the newest features and workflow improvements of Cinema 4D Release 17 to an attentive audience comprising creative professionals and educators from FOX, HBO, Raffles College, MediaCorp, and many more. The audience was impressed with the new features in R17, such as the Take System and the new Spline Tool. The Take System allows user to create numerous independent takes of your scene and change almost any parameter for intuitive variations, all saved in one file to eliminate file management hassles and wasted disk space. Modelling objects has gotten much more intuitive with the new Spline Tools, which made it possible to sketch, smooth, create arcs, and do Boolean operations on splines. Users of Release 17 can also quickly generate clay renders using the Material Override, easily reproduce natural variation and randomness by using the Variation Shader, and use the tighter integration with SketchUp to import in free models from the community. Matthias, who has been a long time Cinema 4D user, also shared with the audience how Aixsponza used Cinema 4D to create Seed, their latest project, to try out new ideas and techniques. He explained how Cinema 4D is open to other third party software, allowing them to create landscapes in WorldMachine and easily integrate the model in Cinema 4D. Aixsponza also did photoscanning for nearly all objects in the video, and after turning the data into geometry, the models were imported into Cinema 4D. Several of the visual effects were done in Houdini, which can be integrated flawlessly into Cinema 4D thanks to the partnership between MAXON and Side Effects Software.
After taking questions from the audience, the event ended with a networking session among the attendees.
Release 17 reinforces MAXON’s commitment to continue enhancing their technology in their quest to provide a stable, high-performance 3D visualization software with tight workflow and unmatched integration.
Our special thanks to Temasek Polytechnic for not only providing the venue but also their support and making this R17 Launch a success!
